Ian has a Master’s degree in Applied Microbiology and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree specializing in microbiology.

Job Experience

He has NZ tertiary teaching experience as a short-term part-time lecturer in Food Process Engineering when he arrived in 2002 at Auckland University of Technology.
He has considerable New Zealand Food Manufacturing Quality & Food Safety Experience (11.5 years) as an Audit Manager from Frucor Beverages where he was responsible for Quality and Food Safety Management while guiding the team through ISO Certification (9000 & 22000), MPI audits & AIB inspections of fruit and dairy-based beverages.

Expertise

He is a keen microbiologist employing this skill in troubleshooting in the Fonterra dairy factories at Whareroa, Palmerston North, Pahiatua, and Longburn. He has kept up to date with HACCP and rapid microbiological methodology.
He came to New Zealand with 25 Years food manufacturing experience in quality and development in South Africa with Nestle, Cereals, Meats, poultry and nut food manufacturers. While in South Africa he gained 15 years tertiary teaching experience while managing and lecturing Food Technology and Microbiology at the Durban University of Technology in South Africa. International food and beverage experience come from Tetrapak.
